Ma Kin Khao Interactive Dinner Party
Advertisement
Enjoy the flavors of Southeast Asian cuisine - spicy, sour, funky, and fresh - through Lao food in a gorgeous plant shop and studio turned restaurant and cooking classroom!
At the Ma Kin Khao interactive dinner party, we will eat, drink, learn, and connect with one another through the deliciousness (and fun!) that is sharing the pha khao (table) together.
Appetizers and the main dish are prepared by Good and Golden. You will learn to make a contribution to the spread with a kohk and sahk (clay mortar and wood pestle, Lao style) plus learn how to use a sticky rice steamer pot. G&G provides beverage pairings with each part of the evening + sparkling and flat water. We also send you off with treats to take home at the end of the night - we hope you’ll kin khao (eat) with us! Tickets are available at the link in this event - it’ll take you to our website.
Menu & Activities
Part One: Kin Lin
We’ll welcome you to the dinner party with our signature cocktail, the G&G G&T. Find your name card (written in English and in Lao script!) and start enjoying the feast!
“Kin lin” loosely translates to “play eating” - so have fun with your food during part one and try different combinations.
Bev: G&G G&T (makrut lime leaf infused gin & tonic)
-khua mak tua din (fried red peanuts with garlic, lime leaves, chilies)
-tum makthang (cucumber salad muddled with tomatoes, garlic, bird’s eye chilis, lime juice, and padaek (fermented fish sauce)
-sai oua (aromatic Lao herb meatballs with ground pork & pork belly combined with shallot, lemongrass, galangal, garlic, bird’s eye chili, and makrut lime leaves)
-seen lod (fried lemongrass-marinated beefsteak with a side of khao niew (steamed sticky rice))
Part Two: Ma Der
When you hear “ma der!” in a Lao household, you better get to where you’re being called to and FAST. You’ll learn to use a Lao-style clay mortar and wood pestle to make jeow and learn the process for making khao niew.
Bev: Beer / Wine pairing
-khao niew (steamed sticky rice)
-jeow (three different dips for sticky rice: roasted mak len (tomato), roasted mak khua (eggplant), roasted mak pik (Anaheim pepper)
-yum sen lown (hearty glass noodle dish served with wood ear mushrooms, southeast Asian pork sausage slices, herbs on herbs on herbs, lime, fish sauce, and bird’s eye chilies)
Part Three: Pak Pen
Time to rest or “pak pen” after eating, cooking, and learning together for a few hours! We’ll have a closing activity and some souvenirs as a thank you to send you off with after the dinner party.
Bev: Lao iced coffee
-kanom dok bua (sesame lotus blossom cookies)
-assorted Southeast Asian fruits
Notes/Thoughts
We know - it’s going to be May 11th! ?Mother’s Day Weekend is the weekend we’re hosting our next Ma Kin Khao interactive dinner party.
G&G will take a bit of time during the dinner to honor mamas and hold space for those who have lost their mothers or have complex relationships with them at our Ma Kin Khao dinner party at @trueleafstudio on Saturday, May 11th.
Have a mom’s day out with your mama pals, honor the person who is a mother in your life (your own, or your spouse to your children whether they’re human or fur babies), or join us for a comforting meal and joy if you won’t or can’t be with that maternal figure in your life that weekend.
