With roots in the ancient Celtic festival of Imbolc which marked the arrival of spring St Brigid’s Day 1 February is an opportunity to celebrate growth renewal and light. In Celtic mythology Brigid was a triple goddess – of healing fire and of poetry. The Christian saint who took her name born in 450 AD carried some of those same associations as the patron saint of poets and midwives
Since 2023 the St. Brigid’s Day/Imbolc bank holiday in Ireland aims to acknowledge and honour St. Brigid herself and the central and unique role of women in today’s society as well as in Irish history and culture.
To celebrate St. Brigid’s Day Comhaltas Canberra is working with the Canberra Irish Club to present a concert on Saturday 22 February 2025 featuring local musicians singers dancers and poets. We’ll have a variety of women performers and lunch is included. You can book at www.trybooking.com/1345275 (bookings close on Wednesday 19 February 2025)
Prior to the concert we will hold a session of craft activities aimed specially at younger ones. This is a FREE event – all welcome. Bring your children/grandchildren. Indicate your attendance at www.trybooking.com/1345254
