The Lynn Film Festival is a dynamic new film series based in Lynn, Massachusetts, dedicated to showcasing films that capture the spirit of community. Running from October 12-14th in its inaugural year, the festival will shine a spotlight on Boston Metro Music Communities, with a focus on the vibrant music scene in the Greater Boston area. This year's theme celebrates the artists, venues, and cultural movements that have shaped the region’s unique musical landscape.
WFNX 101.7 FM was an influential alternative rock radio station based in Lynn, Massachusetts, serving the Greater Boston area. Launched in 1983, WFNX became a pioneering station for alternative and indie rock, introducing Boston listeners to bands like Nirvana, The Pixies, Pearl Jam, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Known for its progressive programming and championing of underground music, WFNX played a key role in shaping Boston's music scene. The station cultivated a loyal following before being sold in 2012, leaving behind a legacy as one of Boston's most iconic alternative rock stations.
On October 14th, the festival will feature a special WFNX Celebration Day, honoring the legendary Boston alternative rock station. The day includes a pop-up photo gallery by Julie Kramer, showcasing her iconic photography from the WFNX studios and surrounding area. Kramer's gallery will be held in the GALA space of the Lynn Arts Building.
In conjunction with the gallery, the festival will screen We Want the Airwaves: The WFNX Story at the Neal Rantoul Vault Theatre, highlighting the rise and impact of the station on Boston’s music scene. Julie Kramer, a longtime WFNX DJ and local radio legend, will join the event as a special guest for an exclusive discussion about WFNX’s lasting influence.
