About this Event
As part of our "The Future is Listening" series, Al Nadwa Freethinking Society is pleased to host a suhoor film screening of the award-winning documentary, Lyd.
The 5,000 year-old bustling Palestinian town Lyd was taken over when the apartheid state of Israel was established in 1948. In this speculative documentary, Palestinian journalist, Rami Younis, and Jewish American filmmaker Sarah Ema Friedland explore what Lyd once was, and what it is now in the context of the continuing genocide in Gaza.
Using archival footage and animation, Lyd cuts between fantastical visions and grim realities to provide a troubling history lesson, context for the moment, and a dream of what might have been.
This event is in partnership with AANM, and will take place at AANM's Aliya Hassan auditorium on Saturday, March 22, at 10:30 p.m. ET. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the co-directors. Sweets and hot beverages will be served. A $10 donation fee is required.
