About this Event
Take the time to think about moments of pleasure, joy, and pure happiness. What is it that you recall about those moments? Where were you, who was around, and what did that feel like, do you remember a specific taste or smell? As you recall those moments of absolute bliss let’s all think about how often we get to have those moments. For Black, Indigenous, Trans, GNC, Disabled, Undocumented folx, and survivors of sexual violence those moments are too few and fleeting when other obligations take precedence. Thus now the question is when do the disenfranchised get to take a break and just breathe? When do they get the opportunity to just exist in happiness? When will their autonomy and agency be restored? And when will they feel the joy of liberation beat down on their face like the best day of summer? These are the same questions asked in the program Absent Archives, but now they are being elaborated on.
Many folx who identify as a part of marginalized communities find themselves questioning their identity outside of their societal roles like as parents, spouses, caretakers, educators, workers, and so on due to patriarchy and capitalism, often defining intimacy can be exciting and difficult. With little self-identification of what pleasure and joy are, some folx wind up playing into societal roles when it comes to intimacy. Throughout the Pleasure Salon, participants will engage in Mindful & Emotional Awareness Techniques centered on exploring their vessels.
Understanding that there are many folx who have intersectional and interpersonal experiences, we understand and acknowledge that this may be triggering for some, and if those folx choose to take a step back from this conversation they may do so without explanation, stigma, judgment, guilt, and victim-blaming.
Men, women, LGBTQ+ folx, justice-involved folx, people with disabilities, undocumented folx, and others who identify as disenfranchised or marginalized this space is for you. To those who have been confused, experienced adversity, and have hopes, dreams, families, and friends, this is for you. You deserve the world.
For those who decide to participate in this innovative project, we hope that you gain the capability to use the exercises provided to find your voice, expand on your truths, and connect with a part of you that allows you to be vulnerable and find joy while practicing what it looks like to start coping and healing.
As you consider engaging in the salon, please be mindful that each session will be unique and will include the following; storytelling, homework, sound bath, kink test, genitalia viewing (of oneself only), along with a fair amount of personal and intimate conversational topics. The intent is to use this compilation of self-identified knowledge to define pleasure and joy for oneself. During the salon, it is asked that everyone fully engages, though if there are any questions or hesitations about any of the curriculum reasonable accommodations can be made.
