Experience the Historic Skinner Organ in an Entirely New Light

Join us on Friday, February 13 for Lux Nova with Organist Jonathan Arce—an unforgettable night of organ music seen in a new light, featuring the magnificent Ernest M. Skinner Opus 327 pipe organ at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Evanston.

A Revolutionary Concert Experience

Organist Jonathan Arce reimagines what it means to attend an organ concert in the 21st century. By blending visual and sonic elements, he and his team create an intricate light show to accompany the music. Rich colors and dynamic lighting highlight the inner narratives and motives present in complex organ repertoire. This novel approach has captivated audiences and broadened the instrument's reach.

As Arce performs on the historic 1922 Skinner organ, cutting-edge projection technology transforms St. Luke's soaring Gothic nave into a living canvas. The 70-foot-high walls, arches, and architectural details come alive with stunning visuals synchronized to the music, creating a complete sensory experience where sound and vision merge.

Experience:

  • The majestic sounds of the century-old Opus 327 organ in a cathedral-scale acoustic space
  • Dynamic 360-degree light projections responding to the music's narratives
  • A multi-sensory journey where you become part of the art
  • Works by Locklair, Bach, Matter, Thalben-Ball, Messiaen, and Duruflé
    About the Organ & Venue

The Opus 327 is one of very few close-to-original Ernest M. Skinner organs remaining in the United States—a rare surviving example of Skinner's artistic and engineering genius. Fully restored in the 1990s, this four-manual instrument was built to mimic the sounds of a full orchestra. St. Luke's Gothic nave, with its exceptional acoustics and cathedral proportions, is inseparable from the organ itself—making it the perfect setting for this innovative performance.

Limited seating available.
