The climax of our 2023-2024 season is our Masterworks Series concert, this year featuring a contemporary masterwork: the 30-minute, five-movement Lux Aeterna by Southern Californian composer Morten Lauridsen. Originally composed for the Los Angeles Master Chorale in 1997, this celebrated piece is an introspective meditation on Light, with five reflective texts set to melodies that are sometimes restful, sometimes sweeping, and a harmonic palette of luminous warmth and clarity. This will be a unique program where we'll introduce you to Lauridsen's work, along with a few pieces by composers that inspired him, including hearing directly from the composer (in a short video) sharing insights into his creative process. You'll also experience Dan Forrest's triumphant Arise, Shine! which was originally composed specifically as a companion piece to the Lux Aeterna. You don't want to miss this inspiring performance!
