Hop Harvest is here! To celebrate this beautiful bine we are collecting as many fresh hopped brews as we can and throwing them on tap for one big old Lupulin love in. Mark it in your calendars. This will be fun. There will be a full tap list of wet hop brews taking the stage for Lupulin Lovers. But what the heck is wet hopping? Wet-hopping (or fresh-hopping) is a brewing process that requires fresh hops be harvested, transported, and used in a brew within a few days. It is like using fresh basil in your spag bog instead of dried basil. It is a little bit fun and special because it can only occur that once (or twice) a year during hop harvest.
Fresh-hop beers took off in the States a good few years back and made it Down Under soon after. This was great for the breweries situated in and around Australia's hop fields. Not so great if you live in a state where hops ‘cannot’ be grown. This is where Hilltop Hop Farm stepped up. They defied convention and established a Brisbane hop farm. Founded in 2017, they have rewritten the traditional beer basics narrative, demonstrating that hops can thrive even in a subtropical climate. Now Brissy can enjoy the fresh-hop fun!
We have gathered up some of our favourite local brews using locally grown hops and are tapping them alongside some of fresh hop brews from down south. So get your hop hat on and join us on Saturday May 3 to show some lupulin love.
