Lupercalia was an ancient Roman festival held between February 13 and February 15 to honor Lupa, the she-wolf who nurtured Romulus and Remus (the legendary founders of Rome). The celebration included sacrifices of a goat and dog, bountiful feasts, and fierce fertility rituals, with the aim of promoting health, purification, and of course, fertility. Over time, it has evolved into a celebration of love and affection, influencing modern Valentine's Day traditions.
