Overview
Join Lifetime Learning and UVA healthcare experts to learn about the latest in lung cancer care, from detection to cutting-edge treatments available at UVA Cancer Center. In this program, nurse practitioner Aimee Strong and thoracic surgeon Dr. Linda Martin will discuss the importance of early detection, the latest in screening guidelines, and treatment options including different surgical options and post-surgical management. Physicians/researchers Dr. Ryan D. Gentzler and Dr. Richard Hall will discuss the newest innovations in lung cancer treatments and therapies, including incredible recent advances in immunotherapy, and their work in clinical trials.
Speaker Biographies
Ryan Gentzler, MD, Associate Professor, School of Medicine, UVA Health
Ryan Gentzler, MD, is an Associate Professor of Medicine at UVA’s School of Medicine and a physician in UVA Health at the University of Virginia. Dr. Gentzler’s clinical focus is the treatment of patients with lung cancer and other thoracic malignancies, and his research is centered around developing novel therapies for lung cancer. His goal is to contribute meaningful research that improves curability, survival, and quality of life for patients with lung cancer. He is an active investigator in many clinical trials, the director of the Thoracic Oncology Clinical Research Program at UVA, and chair of the UVA Cancer Center’s Lung Cancer Translational Research Team.
Richard Hall, MD, UVA Health
Richard Hall, MD, specializes in the treatment of thoracic malignancies, including non-small-cell lung cancer, small-cell lung cancer, thymic malignancies, and mesothelioma. His primary research focus is the application of novel therapeutics, including immunotherapy, antibody-drug conjugates, tyrosine kinase inhibitors, and combination therapies for lung cancer treatment.
Linda Martin, MD, Professor, School of Medicine, and Chief of Thoracic Surgery, UVA Health
Linda Martin, MD, is a Professor in the School of Medicine and Chief of Thoracic Surgery at UVA Health. Martin focuses on thoracic malignancies, but she also has extensive experience with benign lung and esophageal diseases. She strongly advocates for lung cancer screenings and collaborates with physicians and healthcare providers from all disciplines to determine the best treatment strategy.
Aimee Strong, DNP, ACNP, AGACNP-BC, Nurse Practitioner, UVA Health
Aimee Strong, DNP, ACNP, AG-ACNP-BC, is a nurse practitioner and program coordinator for the UVA Lung Cancer Screening Program. She sees patients at increased risk for lung cancer and works closely with them on all aspects of lung cancer screening and prevention, including smoking cessation efforts.
