This talk highlights the role played by the Oxf and Bucks Light Infantry in the WWI Iraq campaign, and by Indian soldiers in the war.
About this Event

‘The Indian Army in the First World War: An Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry Perspective’

During 1914-18, the 1st Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry fought in Iraq as part of the British Indian Army.

Many of the soldiers who died in the campaign are commemorated on war memorials across Oxfordshire. This presentation highlights a project run by the University of Oxford in partnership with the Soldiers of Oxfordshire Museum and highlights the Oxf and Bucks part in the campaign, and also the role played by Indian soldiers during the war.


Complimentary tea and coffee will be available to enjoy during the talk. We recommend arriving before the start of the talk if you would like to grab a refreshment.

Tickets cost £6 and are available online via Eventbrite (booking fee applies) or at the Museum shop.

delivers over sixty presentations and battlefield tours annually. As a Heritage Advisor, he has worked at Banbury Museum, the Soldiers of Oxfordshire Museum and for Oxfordshire Museums Services, amongst over 30 institutions altogether, including Birmingham, Nottingham and Oxford Universities. He delivers presentations and tours related to the First World War and British Civil Wars. He works on behalf of the ‘Museum Memories’ project in India and the ‘Little History of the Sikhs’ project in the UK. He is the author of two books, the latest being: 'The Flying Sikh: Hardit Singh Malik in the First World War'.


Access:

There is step-free, level entry access to the Town Hall via the entrance closest to Carfax Tower (to the left of the main steps as you face the Town Hall). Inside the Museum, Museum Makers is accessible via a platform lift to the Galleries and then a lift to the basement.

Accessible toilets are available in the Museum (close to Museum Makers) and in the Town Hall on the ground floor, before entering the Museum. Please if you’d like to talk to a member of staff about your access requirements. Further access information can be found on our page dedicated to .
