Join Simon Ogden as he shares the many histories of the Castlegate Markets. Most people in Sheffield remember the Castle Market fondly, but that was only one of at least 15 markets held in the Castlegate area since the first one was officially recorded under the walls of the Castle in the 13th century.
Town planner and local historian Simon Ogden will trace this rich and restless history using plans and pictures, to understand why the markets have moved and changed so many times in the last 700 years and what might happen to some of their historic sites next.
This activity is part of the programme of events inspired by and complementing The Boy with a Leg Named Brian: Memoirs by Pete McKee exhibition at Weston Park Museum, which continues until 2 Nov 2025.
Suggested donation £5 – Please donate if you're able and help keep your museums open and available for everyone to enjoy.
