About Oliver Morrell:
Oliver Morrell is a versatile young musician with a diverse portfolio of performing and teaching. He graduated in 2021 with first-class honours from Durham University, and has been awarded performance diplomas from the Royal College of Organists and the London College of Music. Since September 2022, he has been Organ Scholar at St Albans Cathedral. He is responsible for a significant share of the service playing and assists with the training of the choristers. He also conducts the Abbey Singers and accompanies the St Albans Bach Choir.
Before moving to St Albans, he was Organ Scholar at Durham Cathedral for the duration of his undergraduate studies. He then went on to Croydon Minster as Acting Sub-Organist. There, he accompanied the full schedule of choral services each week. He also worked as a Graduate Music Assistant at Whitgift School, where his responsibilities included classroom teaching.
He gained formative musical training as a chorister; first at his local parish church, and then as Head Chorister at the King’s Chapel of the Savoy. From school, he went on to hold a Choral Scholarship at Gloucester Cathedral. As a singer, he is often called upon to deputise in professional choirs in London and further afield. He is also a keen composer and has had his music premiered at the London Festival of Contemporary Church Music.
He regularly offers recitals as a singer and organist (recently performing at cathedrals in Durham, Edinburgh, Lincoln, and Newcastle). He has also played orchestral organ in performances of Dvořák’s Requiem and Britten’s Saint Nicolas.
About Will Sims:
Will Sims is the Director of Chapel Music at Robinson College, Cambridge, where he directs the Choir for their weekly service schedule and busy concert, tour, and recording calendar. He also supervises undergraduate students in the Faculty of Music. Between 2018-2021, he was the Director of Music at University College, Durham, where he conducted and managed the Castle’s renowned Chapel Choir. In 2020, he directed the Choir’s first recording on the Priory Records label, ‘In Memoriam’, (featuring Durufle’s Requiem and Parry’s Songs of Farewell) to critical acclaim; movements from the recording were later broadcast on BBC Radio 3. He is a prize-winning Choral Director of the Royal College of Organists.
Will is an experienced singer and has sung in the Cathedral Choirs of Ely, Lincoln, Peterborough, and St Mary’s, Edinburgh; he has broadcast on BBC One, as a soloist live on Radio 3, Radio 4, and recorded for Delphian Records and Apple TV. He is in demand as a collaborative pianist and holds a performance diploma from The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music; upcoming engagements include recitals of English Song at the Edinburgh Festival, Bristol Cathedral, St Albans, Peterborough, Newark, Aylesbury, and across Cambridge and London. His compositions have been performed in Cathedrals around the UK, broadcast live internationally, and premiered in the London Festival of Contemporary Church Music.
Will completed his Masters’ and undergraduate degrees at Durham University, specialising in the construction, context, and performance of 19th and 20th century British music. He was awarded a First-Class for his dissertation exploring the theology of Herbert Howells’ Hymnus Paradisi under Professor Jeremy Dibble.
