Senator Murray Watt was sworn in as Australia's Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations in July 2024, having previously served as the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, Forestry and Emergency Management since 2022.
Senator Murray was elected to the Australian Parliament as a Senator for Queensland in 2016, after serving as a State Member of Parliament, Chief of Staff to former Queensland Premier Anna Bligh and as a senior public servant.
Prior to entering politics, he practised as a lawyer for several years, representing unions, workers and executives in employment disputes and running class actions against large corporations and governments.
Throughout his legal and political career, the Senator has fought for the rights of workers, to ensure Australians have fair pay and conditions and safe, cooperative workplaces.
Senator Murray and his wife Cynthia have two teenage children, and they are all big soccer fans, even though they support different clubs!
