Although Iron Age Southeast Arabia has been the subject of archaeological study for 70 years, it is, within wider regional studies, at best mentioned in passing and, at worst, completely ignored. The Iron Age landscape of Rustaq, Oman, although one small corner of one small area of study, is complex and full of settlements and structures that show the population's adaptability to their environment. Rather than being relegated to the periphery, a greater understanding of these sidelined regions can help us to understand how regional changes on a macro level force cultural and societal change on a micro level.
