Designed for today’s storytellers, this session supports professionals navigating the
evolving demands of digital communication and public engagement.
Wendy Aguilar is a seasoned journalist turned award-winning communicator and public
relations professional. After spending years as a television reporter working in Arizona,
Texas, and California, Wendy left the news industry. Soon after, she found herself serving
as the Media and Communications Specialist for the Sacramento Fire Department, where
she transformed the department’s social media platforms into powerful tools for public
engagement, education, and storytelling.
Under her leadership, Sacramento Fire’s Instagram presence grew from 23,000 to more
than 166,000 followers, and she launched the department’s TikTok account, which now
exceeds 140,000 followers.
Wendy has been recognized by the California Association of Public Information Officials
with the 2023 Communicator of the Year Award and by the Public Relations Society of
America California Capital Chapter with the Rising Influencer of the Year Award.
