Join Tennessee State Museum curators Annabeth Hayes and Brigette Jones for a lunchtime discussion about the selection of artifacts and stories featured in our new exhibit experience "Tennessee at 225: Highlights from the Collection."On June 1, 2021, Tennessee will commemorate the 225th anniversary of it becoming a state in 1796. This new tour through our galleries focuses on 100 objects that tell the stories of the many people that have contributed to Tennessee’s history and culture since it was first settled by Native Americans. In this Lunch & Learn, Hayes and Jones will talk more about the tour as they explore a few of the artifacts, including the earliest known sampler made by Nancy Reece, a Cherokee woman, near present-day Chattanooga; the story of Union City’s Dorris Tanner, who served as a pilot during World War II; and a harmonica played by influential harmonica-player DeFord Bailey, who was one of the earliest Black performers on the Grand Ole Opry.
