Join us for an insightful professional development session on Tuesday, May 13th led by Dr. Colby Taylor, a licensed psychologist with extensive experience in developmental psychology, assessment, and diagnosis. Dr. Taylor earned his Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Memphis and has completed postdoctoral work with Memphis-Shelby County Schools and the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center (UTHSC), where he currently provides clinical supervision at the Center on Developmental Disabilities. Dr. Taylor also serves a professor at Christian Brothers University. In this presentation, we will explore a neuroaffirmative approach to supporting neurodivergent students, with a particular focus on autism and dyslexia. Moving beyond a deficit-based framework, we will highlight the strengths and unique abilities that neurodivergent learners bring to the classroom. We will also discuss the evolving understanding of autism, emphasizing broader, more inclusive perspectives that challenge outdated stereotypes. Additionally, we will provide an overview of local resources and practical strategies that empower educators to create supportive, flexible learning environments where all students can thrive
