About this Event
Join the Austin Cooperative Business Foundation and co-op members to learn about the story of Collective Campaigns and discuss how labor organization and the cooperative movement can work together, while we eat a late lunch at Austin's very own cooperative brew pub Black Star. This works as a great chill post-Eeyore's Birthday event! Collective Campaign's story stands at an intersection of labor organization and worker cooperatives. They are a "full-service political and non-profit consulting firm that is union-staffed and cooperatively owned." The program will feature an informal Q&A with Collective Campaign and open discussion between everyone attending!
This Lunch and Learn is a part of an ongoing ACBF and ACBA project. For 2024 May Day, we will be doing a webinar on Unions and Co-ops through our Cooperative Educational Series through the City of Austin’s Economic Department, and we are using this as an opportunity to try to foster labor organizing, union, and co-op collaboration in Central Texas. Unions and worker co-ops have a long shared history that many in both the co-op and labor organizer worlds have forgotten. An easy example to show this kind of collaboration is the Union-Coop model that combines the organizing methods of both unions and worker co-ops. But there are many potential ways for our movements to work collaboratively.
Are you in a union and want to start a co-op? The ACBF can offer $50+ individual stipends for union members interested if you:
- Are starting a union co-op with at least 3 people
- Go to the Union & Co-ops webinar
- and begin co-op coaching with the ACBA
