Aging in Place is a Team SportA Builder & Physical Therapist Perspective
How can we design homes that support independence, safety, and dignity as people age? This interactive 60-minute program brings together a CAPS-certified builder/remodeler and a CAPS-certified licensed physical therapist to explore how synergy between construction and healthcare perspectives make homes safer and longer-lasting. This class is useful to both Builder and Associate Members!
Participants will learn:
Why Aging in Place matters now—demographics, demand, and savings compared to assisted living.
The fundamentals of CAPS certification and what it means for building trust and credibility.
Design features that promote accessibility, from no-step entries to better lighting, and why they matter for mobility and safety.
How physical therapists assess functional needs—balance, strength, mobility—and how builders translate those needs into practical design solutions.
A live, collaborative Home Assessment Walk-Through, where participants identify hazards and discuss real-world modifications.
Strategies to position yourself as a trusted Aging in Place resource, building partnerships and referrals with healthcare providers and caregivers.
Through real-life examples, a team-based demonstration, and open discussion, attendees will see how combining the expertise of builders and healthcare professionals can transform homes—and lives.
