Please join us on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 as we welcome multiple presenters, including Dr. David Altig, chief economic adviser at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, and Dr. Nyesha C. Black, Director of Demographics and Assistant Research Personnel at the CBER.

They will share their insights into current economic conditions, the outlook for 2026, key performance indicators to watch during the year, and what these may mean for Fed policy.

Dave Altig is executive vice president and chief economic adviser at the Atlanta Fed. He serves as a primary adviser to the Atlanta Fed president on monetary policy matters and as an adviser to the Executive Leadership Committee (ELC). Dave also leads the Bank’s benefits cliff work and advancing research and engagement related to the Atlanta Fed District’s economic mobility and resilience strategic initiative. Dave came to the Atlanta Fed as senior vice president and director of research in 2007. Prior to joining the Atlanta Fed, he served as vice president and associate director of Research at the Cleveland Fed, where he started as a staff economist in 1991. Dave has served as president of N.A.B.E. (National Association for Business Economics) and as an adjunct faculty member in the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago. He is a current member of the advisory council of the Global Interdependence Center and serves on the board of the Konstanz Seminar on monetary theory and policy.

Dr. Nyesha C. Black is the Director of Demographics and Assistant Research Personnel at the Center for Business and Economic Research at the University of Alabama. She also serves as the state lead for the U.S. Census Bureau’s Federal State Cooperative for Population Estimates and Projections. She has spent several years in academia, non-profit, and government sectors, including a faculty position in the Sociology Department at UAB, and as a postdoctoral fellow in the College of Preventive Medicine at UAB. Dr. Black holds a Ph.D. and master’s degree in demography and sociology from The Pennsylvania State University, where she was awarded a fellowship from the National Science Foundation. She also earned an economics degree from the Culverhouse College of Business at the University of Alabama.
