On the eve of the FASHIONCLASH festival, Lumière and FASHIONCLASH together present a screening of Rains Over Babel, a bold and visually enchanting reimagining of Dante’s Inferno. After the screening, there will be a Q&A via Zoom with director Gala del Sol (in English).In Babel, mortals engage in a seductive dance with death. Dante searches for answers about his past, Monet longs to reclaim his fading body, Timbí and Uma fight for their loved ones, and Jacob prepares for his debut as a drag performer. They’re willing to trade years of their lives in exchange for truth, love, or redemption.
Rains Over Babel is funny, eccentric and romantic, with a generous dose of mysticism. The cast consists of characters with diverse gender identities who encounter everyday issues: love, intolerance, betrayal, meaning and redemption. This string of memories, winding paths and intertwined destinies is wrapped up in magical realism (keep an eye out for the talking salamander!) an underground punk aesthetic – the production design is spectacular – and crazy visual experiments.
