A cappella music performance for all ages.
This is a free drop-in event. Just turn up!
Lula Bye Bye is a collective of mums, dads, caregivers and their babies who come together each week in Margate to experience the joys of singing together. The group will be singing a mixture of folk songs, gospel and lullabies from around the world, all a cappella, with beautiful harmonies and beautiful babies in tow. Come along to the Ellington Park bandstand to soak up some lovely sounds and get a taste for this parent-and-baby group with a difference.
*Ellington Park Bandstand*
Ellington Park Bandstand will be filled with merriment and the power of women from 12noon-4pm on Saturday 11 March, so come and hang out for all the performances! There will be toddler singing workshops, interactive hula hooping, powerful dance performances, as well as a family rave, all hosted by Screaming Alleys Katie McGarry.
*About Katie McGarry, compère*
Katie is an actor, singer and theatre-maker. Trained at Italia Conti (BA HONS), she has had a varied and successful 15 year professional career, including West End, Open Air Oxford Shakespeare, National UK Touring, directing and producing new writing for Off West End, and regular Voice Over work.
Katie is also a classically trained, professional singer and works in the cabaret and gig scene, including being an associate artist and regular performer for Screaming Alley Cabaret in Ramsgate.
Katie is the Founder and Artistic Director of Bindlestick Theatre and is currently touring their new show 'Shakespeare's Royal Company'. She is an associate artist for Looping the Loop CIC's 'We Are Nearly Normal' Theatre Company, and she is currently working on her new play 'Broken Record' in partnership with POW and OASIS.
Katie is a part-time Theatre Lecturer at Broadstairs College, and is an experienced Theatre Practitioner and facilitator. When she is not doing all of that, she likes to go swimming in the freezing Margate sea or kayaking with her son!
*Accessibility*
This park has well surfaced routes suitable for visitors with pushchairs and/or wheelchairs, and has no width restricting features, such as stiles or non RADAR kissing gates. All of the gates and paths are accessible, as is entry into the cafe, and there is a disabled toilet. The only area that isn’t is the steps down from the cafe, but the terrace goes along each side on to flat paths.
There is a cafe on site serving food and drink. POW Festival will also run a bar serving hot drinks and alcohol, and a hot food stand near the main events.
There are toilets on site, with one that is suitable for wheelchairs and baby changing, next to the park cafe. There will be additional male and female event toilets closer to the main attractions.
*Covid*
If you have Covid or flu-like symptoms, we ask that you do not attend our events, to help protect our staff, our volunteers, and vulnerable members of the community.
*Transport*
Ellington Park is a 1 minute walk away from Ramsgate train station, entering via the entrances to the park on Park Road. There are nearby bus stops a 1 minute walk away for the Loop, number 9X, 34, 45A, 48 and 933. There is a lot of free parking on the surrounding residential streets a 1 minute walk from any of the four entrances to the park, but we anticipate it being busy on the day so give yourself plenty of time.
