Award-winning singer-songwriter Lucy Kaplansky performs at the Shady Grove Coffeehouse on Saturday, October 4.Lucy Kaplansky started out singing in Chicago folk music clubs as a teenager. Then, barely out of high school, she took off for New York City. There she found a fertile community of songwriters and performers—Suzanne Vega, Steve Forbert, The Roches, and others. The New York Times said it was “easy to predict stardom for her.” But then Lucy dropped it all.
After earning a doctorate in Clinical Psychology and as she practiced as a Psychologist, Lucy continued to sing. And was often pulled back into the studio by her friends, (who now had contracts with record labels) wanting her to sing on their albums. She caught the attention of Red House Records and re-entered the music business. She’s been at it for more than 30 years now, and has released 10 albums, many of which have won awards.
Lucy's concerts are always memorable, and this is her first appearance in the Richmond area in several years. Don't miss it!
