Comedy @ Commonwealth presents headliner LUCIA WHALEN and friends! Doors open at 6pm. Show starts at 7:00pm.Lucia Whalen is a Chicago-born and bred comedian, writer, and concerned citizen. Her clever, feminist perspective paired with a shameless storytelling style makes her a favorite to audiences all over the country. Lucia is passionate about using her background in multimedia journalism and environmental advocacy to increase public awareness of the climate crisis and motivate people to take action. Prior to joining the team at Openlands, Lucia worked as a freelance writer and helped develop Trashy Magazine, a digital zero-waste digital magazine that highlights sustainability leaders in Chicago.
She has opened for Dave Attell, Janeane Garofalo, Atsuko Okatsuka, Alonzo Bodden, Chad Daniels, and Langston Kerman among others, and has performed at clubs and venues all over the midwest, including Steppenwolf, Comedy on State, The Den Theater, The Green Mill, Helium Comedy Club, the Chicago Laugh Factory, and Zanies.
Lucia is a co-producer of the monthly storytelling comedy showcase Ladylike at the Lincoln Lodge in Chicago and host at Cole’s Bar in Chicago every Wednesday. She's been featured at Limestone Comedy Festival, Asheville Comedy Festival, 10,000 Laughs, Flyover Comedy Festival, and more. Lucia has contributed to The New Yorker and is cohost of the environmental history podcast What a Waste.

Commonwealth Sanctuary is Cincinnati’s home for exquisitely curated live entertainment. Each week we bring you hilarious stand-up comedians, intimate concerts, unique theater productions, live podcast recordings, and so much more.
Commonwealth Sanctuary is housed in the recently renovated, historic former Tower Methodist Church, originally built in 1914. It is no longer a church! Rather, we have converted the purpose of this beautiful old building to bringing you exquisitely curated live entertainment. We have, however, gone to great lengths to preserve the original character of the building while updating for it’s new purpose. We retained all the original stained glass windows and custom-built, curved pews.
We have added a full concession stand with draft beer and wine, as well as many canned drinks, including cocktails and Delta-9 beverages. We partner with local Dayton, KY business Kate’s Catering for our prepared food options. We have added full lighting and sound systems, as well as a complete broadcast-quality video system for recording events and live podcasts. We are exclusively partnered with Third Rule Media to produce our recorded content.
