THE FIFTH ELEMENT ON THE BIG SCREEN
8.00pm
$21 MyWallis members, $23 non-members
Did you know: Luci Besson's cult classic The Fifth Element features an operatic performance by Diva Plavalaguna inspired by Lucia di Lammermoor? The scene is iconic for sci-fi fans, but not many know the piece is actually Lucia's aria ‘Il dolce suono’, the beginning of her descent into madness.
After the talk, stay on at The Piccadilly to watch the film in a spectacular 35mm screening.
Set in the 23rd century, the movie centres around cab driver and former special forces Major Korben Dallas (Willis), his encounter with a beautiful and enigmatic woman (Jovovich) and a quest to recover four mystical stones needed to defend Earth from an impending alien attack.
Watch the operatic sequence with new eyes and enjoy the connection between the characters in the opera and those in the movie.
The Candy Bar will be open before the movie to stock up on all your favourite snacks.
