Luangisa African Museum and Cultural Arts Center (LAMCAC) Grand Opening

Join us on Saturday, October 18th, for the grand opening of LAMCAC! Our theme, "Tree of Life: Makonde Rhythms, Music, and Harmony," celebrates the rich cultural heritage of Makonde art and music.

Event Highlights:

-Get ready to experience the vibrant sounds of Africa with a live performance by

Kauzeni Lyamba, a renowned composer, multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and

music educator born and raised in Tanzania.

- Learn and experience the music and rhythms inspired by African traditions

- Harmony-making techniques using voices and instruments

- Cultural context and history behind Makonde art and music

- Hands-on activities: play drums and other instruments, write music

- Bring your instrument and join the village jam session!

Savor the Flavors of Africa:

-Enjoy authentic African hors d’oeuvres AND refresh yourself with drinks for a $10

donation. Your generosity will help support LAMCAC’s mission.

"The Tree of Life" Makonde Art Exhibition on view from October 19, 2025 until January 18, 2026.

Parking Information:

FREE Parking is available at Traphagen School, 72 Lexington Avenue, Mt. Vernon, NY. All attendees are encouraged to park here and walk 0.5 blocks up the street to the event venue. The walk is short and convenient!
