About this Event
Earlier this year, LSU won the largest grant ever awarded by the National Science Foundation, $160 million, to secure the future of energy in Louisiana. From research and technology development to jobs to making sure new energy solutions are both useful and used by industry, LSU led a team of more than 50 partners to come up with a winning proposal. The team, called FUEL, which stands for Future Use of Energy in Louisiana, brings together higher education institutions across the state with capital, trade, and economic development partners and international energy companies, including Shell, ExxonMobil, and BakerHughes, all supported by the state of Louisiana which invested an additional $67.5 million in the effort. But how do you do this? How do you build such a big team? How is it possible to engineer such a historic win for Louisiana? Join us at Science Café to find out.
Andrew J. Maas is associate vice president for research at LSU where he leads the Office of Innovation & Ecosystem Development, LSU Innovation Park, and Louisiana’s winning FUEL team. With more than 16 years of experience in technology licensing and commercialization, Maas was recently named board chair of AUTM, a global nonprofit whose members support the conversion of academic research into solutions used by communities, businesses, states, and nations.
