About this Event
This art workshop, led by local artist Rachel Sutherland, is inspired by the seascapes of LS Lowry, some of whose work is on display at the Granary Gallery Berwick upon Tweed TD151ES. The exhibition is open Weds -Sun 11- 4pm from 25th May - 13th October 2024. Entry is £5.
The workshop begins with a short tour of the exhibition by Rachel, followed by coffee in the YHA conference rooms where the workshop will be held. Rachel will introduce the themes of the day and be there to discuss, advise and guide as you create your own piece of work.
Using Lowry’s restricted colour palette (yellow ochre, vermillion, Ivory black, prussian blue and flake white) we will explore the use of subtle colour and light to create our own seascapes. The spiritual element that Lowry freely admits to, will be incorporated, discussed, and compared with other sea painters (Courbet and MacTaggart) of a less reflective style. How do we, as painters, be with the sea?
We will break for lunch at 12.30pm for 30 minutes, and you can order food from the YHA cafe downstairs, or bring a packed lunch. We will resume at 1pm and finish at 3pm.
There will be 10 places in the workshop.
