Lower Back Magic: Somatic Movement for Lower Back Fluidity

Lower back pain is a common issue in modern life - we spend much of our time in chairs resulting in lower back compression, dysfunctional pelvic alignment, a tight and weak psoas, weak hamstrings, and more. Through somatic movement, we can create more comfort and ease in the lower back through gentle, fluid movement. Somatic movement also helps change neuro-muscular patterns and brain maps we develop that may be causing discomfort and pain. When we take our attention inward through subtle awareness, we create change that will help us find freedom and fluidity in the mind and body.
What is Somatic Yoga?
Do you have unresolved pain and tension in your body? Due to lifestyle, stress, trauma, sitting in chairs, we all have patterns in our bodies that can create imbalance in the form of muscles that are chronically tight and/or weak. Our fascia continuously adapts to our habits, thought patterns and stress levels. Through gentle movement and myofascial release techniques, the practice of somatic yoga will help you release chronic pain and stress in the body. By working on our sensory motor system, our muscular-skeletal structure and overall health can improve without the use of medications and expensive treatments. Based on the work of Thomas Hanna, the term “somatic” means to experience something in your body through interoception, sensing within. This practice is gentle and effective, no experience is necessary! Everyone can benefit, regardless of age and ability. This practice is done on the floor, no standing work, and incorporates myofascial release with tennis balls. Please join Deanna for this transformative and deeply relaxing practice. Deanna is a certified SATYA practitioner, which stands for sensory awareness training for yoga attunement. She has trained extensively with Tias Little of Santa Fe, New Mexico.
