Khenchen Konchog Gyaltsen Rinpoche
Khenchen Konchog Gyaltsen Rinpoche, a revered scholar and meditation master of the Drikung Kagyu lineage, was born in Tsari, Tibet in 1946. After leaving Tibet as a child, he took monastic vows in India and went on to complete a rigorous nine-year program at the Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies in Varanasi.
Ordained by the great master Kalu Rinpoche, Rinpoche received profound teachings from many eminent teachers, including the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa and Khunu Lama Rinpoche. He later undertook a three-year retreat under Khyunga Rinpoche and received the transmissions of Mahamudra and the Six Yogas of Naropa from Venerable Pachung Rinpoche at Drikung Thil Monastery in Tibet.
In the early 1980s, Khenchen Rinpoche came to the U.S. and founded the Tibetan Meditation Center in Washington, D.C., the first Drikung Kagyu dharma center in North America. A gifted translator and teacher, he translated dozens of essential Drikung Kagyu texts into English, including practices on Vajrayogini, Green Tara, Mahamudra, and the complete NgΓΆndro, making these profound teachings accessible to Western students.
Rinpoche has taught extensively throughout the U.S., Latin America, Europe, and Asia, and established numerous dharma centers around the world. Known for his deep knowledge, clarity of teaching, and compassionate presence, he continues to dedicate his life to spreading the Buddhaβs teachings and supporting practitioners on the path.
He currently resides in Madison, Wisconsin and India, where he continues his translation work, teaching, and dharma activity.
