Love Letters to Home is Maxx Follis-Goodkind's first solo show since October 2018. Hysteria was set to open March 2020 when the city shut down just days before the opening. Maxx, like many others, went from traveling regularly for work, to not leaving her neighborhood.
Daily walks got longer, seasonal changes transformed the landscape over and over, and Maxx developed an intimacy with Ballard, her home. She started taking photos of her favorite things - a rusty basketball hoop, decaying furniture, a moss covered gargoyle.
Love Letters to Home is a series of Maxx's paintings based on these photos. This is also Maxx's first series of paintings with minimal brushwork. Tremors make fine brushwork difficult and so these pieces are done primarily with painting knives. Each piece has many layers of paint and has a textured finish. The paintings are meant to be touched so that those with limited or no vision are able to feel the shapes and textures in the painting.
Join us on December 16th for the opening of this very unique show. And yes, you can touch the artwork. You many even recognize something from where you live.
