About this Event
Join us at Shreveport Green for the next Louisiana CRAFT On-Farm Event!
The Shreveport Green Urban Farm is a living classroom located adjacent to downtown Shreveport, designed to show how urban agriculture can feed and strengthen communities. We'll spend our time together exploring the vertical hydroponic system, fruit trees orchard, pollinator garden areas, and water catchment systems, which together demonstrates practical, sustainable solutions that promote food security, wellness, and environmental stewardship. The farm grows a wide variety of crops, hosts volunteer and educational programs, and operates weekly community and mobile markets that increase access to fresh, affordable produce.
Shanetta Brown serves as the Urban Farm & Community Markets Director for Shreveport Green, where she leads programs that connect residents to fresh, local food, environmental education, and community wellness. A passionate advocate for sustainability and community empowerment, Shanetta oversees operations at the Shreveport Green Urban Farm as a farmer, blending food production, education, and creativity to inspire greener, healthier neighborhoods across North Louisiana.
Shreveport Green is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the environmental quality of life in Shreveport and Caddo Parish. Through beautification projects, recycling initiatives, tree plantings, education, establishing community gardens and urban farming, Shreveport Green empowers communities to work together for a cleaner, greener, and healthier future.
CRAFT stands for the Collaborative Regional Alliance of Farmer Training and is an approach used nation-wide to build community and knowledge among farmers. CRAFT provides farmer-to-farmer learning opportunities in sustainable agriclulture and grows connections among our farmer social networks in a self-selected geographic region. Using this model in Louisiana will empower farmers and provide mutual support as we expand sustainable agriculture in our state. Louisiana CRAFT is supported by Sprout, Intertribal Agriculture Council, the National Center for Appropriate Technology (NCAT), and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Transition to Organic Partnership Program (TOPP). TOPP is a program of the USDA Organic Transition Initiative and is administered by the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) National Organic Program (NOP).
