FAMEHUNGRY is a show about fame, the attention economy, and the sneaking suspicion that social media is distracting us from the apocalypse.
It is also an intergenerational conversation and collaboration between one famehungry millennial performance artist (Louise Orwin) and one Gen Z famehungry TikTok star (Jax Valentine).
Louise and Jax are both queer, neurodivergent artists who work in different forms: one of them likes to be in front of audiences IRL [‘in real life’], and the other likes to be in front of audiences online. Both of them exploit their lives for ‘content’.
Led by Louise, together they have made a show which asks how social media is changing us, what young people think about the future, and what it feels like to be hungry for fame in the face of a world on fire.
Alongside her work with Jax, Louise has also been interviewing other famous TikTokers and speaking to Cambridge researcher Dr Amy Orben, who researches into the effect that social media is having on young people, and our brains and bodies, and what this might mean for the future.
Fusing dance, performance art and an innovative multimedia set up starring live cameos and participation from Jax and other famous TikTokers (via TikTok Live) FAMEHUNGRY follows Louise’s one woman nose-dive into the world of TikTok as she hunts for likes, shares and followers. It is also a show in two parts: it is performed in a theatre space for both a TikTok Live audience and in-person audience. The only caveat being that the TikTok Live experience and the IRL Theatre experience are simultaneous but different shows.
