About this Event

Lough Neagh Reflections – Restoring water quality in Northern Ireland

Lough Neagh supplies 40% of Northern Ireland’s (NI) drinking water and is largest freshwater lake in Ireland and the United Kingdom. The large-scale algae blooms seen since 2023 pose a significant public health risk and urgent action is needed from all actors.

Focusing on the agricultural sector, this event will discuss some of the ways farmers are reducing nutrient runoff and improving their water quality. The event will feature the screening of short film, highlighting positive action from the farming community.

Afterwards a panel discussion will bring together policy makers, scientists, and farmers to discuss strategies for improving water quality.

This event addresses the urgent need for action, promoting sustainable farming practices and exploring policy changes to tackle the ongoing environmental crisis in the region.
