Contemporary and Jazz Duets for Violin and Cello, featuring
Lorie Gruneisen, violin and Alisa Woods, cello.
Alisa Woods-Darie has played cello since age 7, taking several breaks to study and work in the fields of neuroscience and psychology. She currently studies classical cello with Christian Hosmer. She is a member of Daniel Plane’s Contemporary Cellist’s Forum, the St. Lawrence University String Orchestra and the North Country Connections Orchestra. She runs a private psychotherapy practice in Potsdam and also heads PCS Music Friends.
Lorie Gruneisen received her Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Education from the Crane School of Music, Potsdam, N.Y., and her Master of Music in Violin Performance from the University of Connecticut. She has been a Music Educator for over 40 years in the public and private sectors.
Lorie is a composer and arranger of music for Church Choirs and for Orchestras. Some of her String Orchestra music for schools has been published by Kendor Music, now a subsidiary of Excelcia Music. Lorie has performed with the Southwest Florida Symphony,
the Orchestra of Northern New York (ONNY) and is currently 1st Violinist in the Potsdam String Trio. She has also been a stage actress in local productions, which included “The Sound of Music”, The Music Man, “My Fair Lady” and “Into the Woods”.
Lorie founded and directs the North Country Connections Orchestra, (NCCO) whose members are students and community musicians who come from various towns throughout St. Lawrence County, N.Y. She presently teaches violin and piano part-time at the Holy Name of Jesus Academy in Massena, N.Y., and teaches violin, cello, and piano privately. She is a member of the Potsdam Church of the Nazarene and plays piano and sings in the Praise Team.
She resides in Potsdam with her husband, Don, and part Siamese cat, “Minker”. Lorie feels very blessed by her students and their families, and her church family, and enjoys bringing people together into group settings to make beautiful music together.
