Church of the Nativity’s new Director of Music, Aaron Tan presents his Huntsville debut concert at Church of the Nativity, performing on the church’s historic 1942 Aeolian-Skinner pipe organ. The program will feature rarely-heard compositions from a series entitled “L’orgue moderne” – a periodical publication established in 1894 by the eminent French organist-composer, Charles-Marie Widor, to promote young composers at the Paris Conservatoire, where Widor taught as a Professor of Organ and Composition. The collection offers a unique and unexplored snapshot into the compositional style of France’s most elite musical institution at the turn of the twentieth century, and provides a window for organists and organ music lovers into a rich world of repertoire beyond that of the dominant masters of organ repertoire at the time (namely, Louis Vierne, Marcel Dupré, and Widor himself). Composers heard on October 10 include Charles Tournemire, Henri Dallier, Henri Mulet, René Vierne (brother of Louis Vierne), Émile Bourdon, and several others. Admission is free, but a donation to support the church’s music program is welcome.
