Welcome to Terrence McNally's It's Only a Play is a sharp, fast-paced comedy about the backstage panic, ego clashes, and theatrical meltdowns that happen when the stakes are high – and the critics are waiting. The play takes place entirely in the bedroom of a lavish Manhattan townhouse, where a playwright, a producer, an actor, a director, a critic, and a coat-check guy all anxiously await the reviews of their brand-new Broadway show.
This production is presented by Loonlight Theatre, a brand-new site-specific company bringing funny, smart, and high-quality shows to unexpected places in Southeast Michigan. Join us outside at Lowertown Bar & Cafe, where string lights and patio tables replace the traditional stage - and where the drama is very much offstage.
