Long Rock - Guided Walk
Join Bird Wise East Kent's knowledgeable rangers for a guided walk through Long Rock SSSI.
Long Rock SSSI is known for its numerous bird species, as it is an important feeding and roosting area for hundreds of our wintering waders. We can expect to see Turnstones, Oystercatchers, Ringed Plover and much more along this walk.
Our rangers will be on hand to help with spotting and identificaton tips and with the help of our spotting scope you will be able to observe these birds in close detail without the worry of getting too close and disturbing them.
This in-person event is perfect for nature enthusiasts and those looking for a fun educational outdoor experience. Don't miss out on this opportunity to connect with nature and enjoy a refreshing walk and Long Rock.
Look out for the bright Bird Wise van near the Whistable Skatepark and meet the rangers prior to starting the guided walk.
Please bring binoculars if you have them, although a very small number of pairs will be available to borrow on the day. We will have our spotter scope out with us for all involved to peek through to see the birds in close detail.
Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear for this event, as it will go ahead whatever the weather. However if there is a Yellow or higher weather warning in place on the day, then it may be cancelled. You will be informed in the case of a cancellation, please keep an eye on your emails.
This event is suitable for all age groups and abilities. Well behaved dogs are welcome, but must be kept on a lead throughout the event due to PSPO laws in the area, and also to avoid disturbing the wildlife.
We regret that there are no toilet facilities near this event, so please keep this in mind.
It will consist of a short 1.5-2km walk, most of which is on flat concreted ground, however a short section will be on slightly rough terrain, and depending on weather conditions may not be suitable for wheelchair users.
