About this Event
The Austin Area Urban League's Lone Star Pitch Competition will provide minority pre-launch start-ups and microentrepreneurs a platform to present their business to a team of expert judges to win investment capital. The competition is hosted by the Austin Area Urban League with support from BBVA, Houston Area Urban League, Austin Area Urban League Young Professionals (AAULYP) , and the Dallas Fort Worth Urban League Young Professionals (DFWULYP).
Our Purpose:
The purpose of the Lone Star Pitch Competition is to highlight and support the growth of innovative, community-based startup businesses in the Austin, Dallas, and Houston metropolitan areas. This event also serves as the launch event for the newly created Entrepreneurship and Economic Empowerment Center Program (E3CP) at the Austin Area Urban League which is designed to support business development as well as preparation for business financing and investment capital for businesses owned by Black and other people of color.
Who Can Apply:
For its inaugural year, the Lone Star Pitch Competition is geared toward community-based small businesses in the metropolitan areas of Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth, and Houston that are owned or can be nominated by members of the Young Professionals Community. This year's target industries include the following:
- Agriculture
- Artistic Design
- Educational Services
- Hospitality & Leisure
- Innovative Consumer Goods (Inventions)
- Technology and Software
Innovators
This track includes businesses who are in the pre-launch phase with no sales revenue to date, excluding Kickstarter "sales ". Must have a registered business name (DBA and prototype to display.
Newcomer
This track includes businesses operating for one to five years with average annual sales revenues below $100,000 this excludes Kickstarter "sales". Must have a registered business name (DBA or incorporation in the State of Texas)
