The Institute Of Directors (IOD) India has had a long presence in UK as we hold our ‘Annual London Global Convention’ on Corporate Governance & Sustainability for the last 20 years along with a ‘Global Business Meet’ at House of Lords.
The Convention will commence with a 'Global Business Meet' at the House of Lords on 9th November. The Technical Sessions will be held on 10th - 11th November at the Hotel Montcalm Marble Arch. The famed 'Golden Peacock Awards' for 'Corporate Governance' and 'Sustainability' (both Global & National) will be presented during the Convention on 10th evening followed by a 'Banquet-Dinner'.
This year’s theme is ‘Building an Effective Board that Works & Top Global Trends’. Governance and sustainability topics to be covered include current boardroom challenges climate governance ESG board committees human capital creating opportunities from risks diversity digitalisation etc. from a director and board perspective. Over the years the Convention has been addressed by a large number of officials from the Governments of UK India and also business leaders from across geographies. Our last Annual Global Convention 2019 (pre-Covid) at London had a record participation (around 400 delegates) both globally and from India. 24 countries from around the globe participated (UK UAE France USA Nepal Afghanistan Austria Luxembourg Cyprus Switzerland Mauritius Oman South Africa Finland China Ireland Poland Peru Singapore Spain Qatar Germany and Indonesia).
For the last 7 years these Conferences are preceded by IOD’s Global Business Meets at the House of Lords thanks to the British authorities. These have been generally inaugurated by leading British Ministers such as The Rt. Hon. Theresa May The Rt. Hon. Oliver Letwin MP The Rt. Hon. Alok Sharma The Rt. Hon. Eric Pickles MP The Rt. Hon. Lord Bates et al. Mrs. Nirmala Sitharaman the then Minister Commerce & Industry (I/C) and leading local Indian Business & Industry representatives have also participated – Mr Gopichand Hinduja Lord Swraj Paul Lord Karan Bilimoria et al.
Some of the leading industrial leaders from India who have flown with us in earlier years to London to participate include Mr Ajay Piramal Chairman Piramal Group Mr Sanjiv Goenka founder and Chairman RP-SG Group Dr. Raghupati Singhania Chairman & Managing Director JK Tyre & Industries Ltd. Generally around 350 delegates attend over the 3-4 days of the event. In addition to discussing critical global issues the event is also an opportunity to explore business partnerships and collaborations.
