Renowned quilt portrait artist Lola Jenkins will headline the 2022 Atlanta Quilt Festival. The Festival will honor the life and legacy of Congressman John Lewis with a special exhibit. To continue that theme, the class project will be a portrait of John Lewis. However, Lola's techniques are applicable to any portrait.
Students will learn to make a collage portrait using the pattern provided by Lola. Students will be given all information necessary to make a portrait from a photo. Students will learn how to choose and manipulate fabrics to create a colorful collage portrait the size of a 11x17. Students will also learn how to sew a portrait quilt using a variety of methods including thread painting.
Lola will furnish a kit containing all the materials needed to make the portrait. The kit fee is $25 payable to Lola on the day of class. No machine is required. Continental breakfast included. Bring your lunch.
