Sadly, on Sept 1/24 NL lost one of its most renowned drummers, Michael (Mike) Billard, far too young at age 60, to Alzheimer's Disease.
Loco Motif was formed by Bill Brennan over 20 years ago because Mike was coming home from TO for a visit and wanted to play a gig during that time. The band was only meant to have fun playing music by some of its favourite jazz artists, without any long-term plan. The band played a couple of gigs with Mike, and a few more over the coming years with a couple of other drummers when Mike wasn't available, but then took about a 15 year break. Last year Bill and Kirk decided to blow the dust off the charts and go have some fun playing together again.
This gig was planned prior to Mike's passing but the group has made the unanimous decision to dedicate it to the memory of our good friend Mike, and we will be donating 25% of the proceeds from the cover charge to the Alzheimer's Society in Mike's memory.
