Meet Doug! Today's Lapeer County Grain Miller
Grains are no longer processed in any of the old feed and flour mills in this area. In fact, the Hadley Mill stopped grinding grains in the 1960’s. So, you might be surprised to learn that today a variety of grains are milled and sold commercially at Stony Croft Farms located in Mayfield Township. Owner, Doug Hodge, will provide this program about his milling equipment from Austria that includes a millstone from Greece. He offers naturally grown buckwheat, red wheat, white wheat, all purpose and spelt flour as well as corn meal products. Doug is a farmer as well as a miller and grows some of the grains that he processes. Just as in the old days, grains grown locally are once again being milled in Lapeer County.
Doors open at 6:30; program from 7:00 to about 8:30pm. This event is open to the public, all ages including children. No admission fee, but donations are appreciated. Pre-registration or tickets are not required but we’d love to know if you plan to attend. Please register here at HadleyHistorical.Eventbrite.com.
