About this Event
Join John Clark for a walk along the surfaced paths that will take us round the spectacular Blashford Lakes nature reserve managed by the Hampshire & IoW Wildlife Trust. The reserve has been created from flooded gravel pits and is now a bustling centre of activity used by thousands of birds all year round including kingfisher, lapwing and oyster catcher.
There is a unique mix of habitats on the reserve with six bird hides and two viewing screens around the four main lakes, woodland and a small river. Birds such as siskins, great spotted woodpeckers and linnets can frequently be seen from the woodland hides. On the open water thousands of wildfowl make the reserve their home including goldeneye and gadwall along with resident colony of common tern, coots and great crested grebes.
