About this Event

“LOCAL PROPHETS: A Play of Near Collisions” is a short absurd drama about two trans friends at the Vermont/Beverly bus stop during ungodly hours. Venus, a witchy t-girl with a mild savior complex, and Angel, a headstrong enby punk, are always on the move: to concerts, job interviews, and places that used to feel liked home. As their warring perspectives on spirituality clash, the intersection becomes both literal and metaphorical space where bodies, desires, and destinies almost— but never quite— collide. Conceived by Azad Namazie with Blaire Battle.
Azad Namazie (they/them) is a poet, playwright, and digital archivist from Los Angeles, CA. Their work has been featured in Mizna Journal, About Place Journal, Rust & Moth, and Q/A Poetry and is forthcoming in FRUITSLICE. As a playwright and theatre artist, their credits include Another Birth, a commissioned work produced by Celebration Theatre and Greenway Arts Alliance, and an archival exhibition for A Third Space: The Trans Conversation Project (Hollywood Fringe Festival).

Blaire Battle(they/she) is an actor, writer, comedian, and general mischief maker. She is a graduate of UCLA's school of Theater, Film, and Television, with a double concentration in acting and playwriting and a certificate in writing for television. She most recently appeared in the world premiere of Celebration Theater’s Billy to his Friends as Actor 6, and as a company member in Theatricum Botanicum’s Tartuffe Born Again and The H/L/L/L/L Vote. Blaire also recently debuted their new play Rebis at Celebration Theater as part of Tales of The Trancestors, where she was lucky enough to meet Azad and force them to work together again. Battle has also written and co-written a number of projects with long term writing partner Graham C. King, and their production company, the Stranger Kind, including space fantasy webcomic Song of the Rainbow Sea, queer sci-fi rock opera Dreamverse, and post apocalyptic transgender radio play The Transient Bliss of Death by Fallout, where they also play “The Love Zombie” Keep up with Blaire’s queer multimedia chaos on ig @blaire.battle and follow @thestrangerkind on all platforms.
