About the Book
The Art of Living in Advent (2025)
Enter the Advent season this year from a distinctly Provençal perspective. The Art of Living in Advent, an artistically crafted daily devotional guide, written and illustrated by Sylvie Vanhoozer, blends Scripture, history, art, and reflection to enrich your appreciation of the Christmas season. Vanhoozer encourages readers to slow down and recognize themselves as part of the nativity scene, by learning to welcome Christ into their everyday lives the way the "little saints" (santons) in France do in theirs.
The Art of Living in Season (2024)
The Art of Living in Season takes readers through the year, starting with Advent and a southern French nativity scene. She invites readers to imagine stepping into that scene, and to join the pilgrims who have come to offer gifts to Jesus. Like them, we can offer what gifts we have not only at Christmas but throughout the year. Each chapter opens up another aspect of our spiritual pilgrimage through the seasons of the church, the seasons of nature, and the seasons of life. This book includes the author's botanical illustrations, her gift to their Maker, and invites us to give everyday offerings, our ordinary lives, to our Maker as well.
About the Author
Sylvie Vanhoozer was born and raised in Provence, France. She and her husband lived in England and Scotland for twelve years before moving to the American Midwest with their two daughters. A certified botanic artist and retired French teacher, she now focuses her attention on her writing and art, inspired in part by the various places which she has called home. She sees herself as a place-maker who cultivates whatever and whoever happens to be growing in her vicinity. She believes this is the art of living in season in her place.
