October 1, 2021, 7:30PM loadbang Presents: Premieres Vol. 17. at Opera America’s Marc A. Scorca Hall
Live stream available here:

A continuation of their ongoing series dedicated to expanding the repertoire for their unique instrumentation (trumpet, trombone, bass clarinet, and baritone voice), this concert will include world premieres by
Darcy Copeland, Maya Miro Johnson, Alex Temple, and Max Vinetz as well as the New York premiere of a piece by Stefano Gervasoni, and music by Anthony Braxton and Eli Greenhoe.
Max Vinetz’s in the red, on text by Rūta Kuzmickas, teeters between extremes - sparkling fireworks of gesture suddenly freeze into harmony, or rewind and loop themselves. Alex Temple’s genre-defying Diadem, and Darcy Copland’s exquisite untitled new work bring new perspectives to loadbang’s repertoire. Maya Miro Johnson’s greed is good and winning is everything draws on tap dancing, silent film, and the exchange of goods to critique contemporary life.
Stefano Gervasoni has set Four Songs on enigmatic texts by Elizabeth Bishop, drawing a connection between mechanistic musical structures and inner emotional life - the work will be heard here for the first time in New York. Anthony Braxton’s Composition 115 requires a combination of improvisation and interpretation of the score’s complex systems and glyphs, and is one of the few works performed by loadbang to not have been written for the ensemble. Finally, Eli Greenhoe’s Tombeau pairs poems of Gerard Manley Hopkins and Deakin Dixon, each with a distinctive musical style, in a meditative and elegiac work.
