Just how does coffee make it from a “coffee cherry” on a farm somewhere near the equator to your cup here in Michigan? We’ll walk through the steps of coffee’s journey from farm to cup and discuss what transformations the bean goes through in order to create the type of coffee you crave in the morning. In the last part of the session, we’ll brew some delicious coffee using a siphon pot, a simple yet entertaining way of brewing coffee that Americans commonly used before the 1960s. We’ll also preview sessions 2 and 3 where we look at coffee’s history and labeling/figuring out what to buy when in the grocery store, at your local cafe, or shopping online.
