About this Event

Lloyd Llewellyn-Jones is renowned for his work in the study and popular dissemination of Ancient History, and we are thrilled to welcome him to speak about his recent book, ‘The Cleopatras: The Forgotten Queens of Egypt’ (Wildfire, 2024) and his forthcoming book, 'Babylon: the Mother of All Cities' (Wildfire, 2026). This event will be chaired by Helen Bond and is sponsored by the Centre for the Study of Christian Origins (CSCO), in association with the Biblical Time Machine [https://www.biblicaltimemachine.com/] podcast.


Lloyd Llewellyn-Jones

Professor Lloyd Llewellyn-Jones is an academic, a writer and a historical advisor whose research interests include ancient Greek and Persian socio-cultural history, gender and visual culture. He is a reviewer for the Times and Times Higher Education and has worked on productions with the BBC, Channel 4, the History Channel and in Hollywood. He has held lectureships at Exeter University and the University of Edinburgh, where he was made Professor of Ancient Greek and Iranian Studies in 2015. In 2016 he became Chair of Ancient History at Cardiff University. He is the author of multiple books including ‘Persians: the Age of the Great Kings’; ‘Ancient Persia and the Book of Esther’ and ‘The Cleopatras: the Forgotten Queens of Egypt’.


Chair: Helen Bond

Helen Bond is Professor of Christian Origins at the University of Edinburgh and co-host of the popular podcast Biblical Time Machine. She's interested in the people, events and ideas that made up the first century of the Christian movement and has written on Pontius Pilate, Caiaphas the High Priest, the historical Jesus and Mark's Gospel. She is a frequent contributor to TV and Radio, and (with Joan Taylor) presented ‘Jesus' Female Disciples: the New Evidence’ (Channel 4, 2018).
